Powering Up
In every game, powering up fast is half the fun of the game. It's where we learn, through many mistakes and experiences, to fight our way to the competitive scene. Here are a few tips to help level you up faster and efficiently.

1. Monster Rarity
Let's start from the basics. Monsters are ranked by the follow rarities from weakest to strongest: Common < Uncommon < Rare < Super < Ultra < Epic < Legendary. Everyone starts out with common monsters and the goal is to aim for a team of all Legendary monsters. Realistically though, most people will not be able to get to Legendary teams without investing real money into the game. To increase your team, I highly recommend joining the Battle Community on Facebook. There, you can ask more questions and get answer quickly. So, let's heads into your goals for the game.
2. Starting Your Team
When you start out with commons, your immediate goal should be acquiring Rares and Supers through questing, spinning grabs, doing halls/raids, and other means.
3. Strengthening Your Team Efficiently
As you may have noticed, you will need to strengthen you team considerably through feeding monsters to your main monster. The monsters that are used to feed the main monsters are called "feeders." Feeders are usually monsters that are used in evolutions (I'll explain evolutions later), or generally useless monsters. Now to maximize your feeding efficiency, you should first note the existence on specials. Specials are the monsters that give x2, x3, or x5 experience to a monster when being fed. Their names are respectively, potent, charged, and energized. These specials are quintessential to your leveling and maxing of your monsters. NOTE: These specials are only the ones you receive outside of events. Any event specials you may receive with the same passive bonus as these specials are USELESS outside of events and should be sold after events to make more room for inventory space. Ok, here are the tips you should think about when feeding monsters.
Alright! So now that you have your team of Supers and Rares, your goal now is to Choose a Zodiac. If you have looked at the passives of the monsters, you will have noticed that each monster requires other monsters of the same zodiac to activate the bonus passives. Therefore, you will need to make your team all have the same zodiac. Not only that, you will want their skills to work together properly to maximize your damage and survivability. The team styles that players are currently using, and the team that I recommend is having a team that is all ONE element (called a "Mono Team") and all the same zodiac. This style is due to the monsters that have the Swap and Element Swap ability. If you have a team of 5 water monsters, and the Swap ability changes all Heart Gems to Water Gems, then naturally, you will do a lot more damage than usual.
5. Evolving Your Team:
Most people mess up the first evolution due to lack of information towards evolving them. When I say mess up, I mean messing up the Perfect Evolution. The Perfect Evolution is when you MAX ALL the reagents required for evolving your monster. So for most supers, they will require 3 maxed specials in their element, 1 maxed candy for their rarity, and 1 monster that is the same as the one you are evolving which will be sacrificed. For example: if I want to evolve my Freezaur super, I will need 3 maxed water specials, 1 maxed super candy, and 1 maxed and different Freezaur. The bonuses to Perfect Evolving a monster is that it will do the max amount of damage possible compared to a non evolved monster. You should ALWAYS perfect evolve rather than regular evolve. You can also Perfectly Second Evolve certain monsters to increase their damage even more. To do this, you will need 3 maxed crystals, 1 maxed super crystal, and 1 PERFECT EVOLVED sacrificial same super. For example: if I were to Second Evolve a Freezerex, I will need to have 3 maxed water crystals, 1 maxed super crystal, and 1 maxed and Perfect Evolve Freezerex sacrifice.
Also Note: A Perfect First Evolution requires 1 rarity candy and 3 element specials, whereas a Perfect Second Evolution requires 1 rarity crystal, and 3 element crystals.
6. Finishing Your Team:
So by now, you should have a full PE super team in one element with Swap and Element Swap (Hopefully), and you're ready to go off to compete in events! Please tell me/ask me to add anything I may have forgotten.

6. Finishing Your Team
- Questing: During your quests, you will be asked to do certain tasks in areas that drop Rare pieces. Rares can be composed of either 2 pieces (only in the first 2 zones of the game) or 4 pieces. When you defeat a Rare monster, there is a chance that it will drop a piece of itself that will eventually add up to create the monster for you to keep. This method does not mean that you will get monsters directly from your quests, but you will indeed get Rares while questing.
- Spinning Grabs: There are really two approaches you can take with spinning grabs...whether you want to spend money or not. There are 4 types of monster spins: Legendary, Elite, Ultimate, and Monster. The Monster grab will give monsters ranging from commons to supers and can give individual pieces for those monsters. The Ultimate grab will give monsters ranging from Rares to Epics. The Elite grab is from Supers to Epics. The Legendary grab is from Supers to Legendaries. I will explain the "non-spender" method first.
- As a non-spender, you will only receive Ultimate grabs through events (I'll explain each event later) like: Regular Events, League Events, and World Boss Events. Realistically you should not be participating in these until you have finished questing through the entire game up to the quest that asks you to beat the architect (or Mortimer if you are stuck there). Once you have built a strong enough team, then I would recommend joining a good troop and doing events with them. In the meantime, you can earn Monster Grabs through: quests, beating the troop cave, daily gifting, miscellaneous reasons. Quests give quite a few of them and you should use them to earn Rares, specials, and, if you're lucky, supers. Once you are done with all your quests, I recommend hitting the Troop Cave constantly in-between events to get more Monster Grabs if you are in need. You can also receive 1 Monster grab per 24 hours if you log onto Facebook and click on one of your friend's "Shared Posts" from Battle Camp. It will say, "First 5 clickers get a free gift." Lastly, you will get Monster grabs from miscellaneous sources like petting the troop pet, being a good mentor, having your activity liked in announcements, and etc. Just gather up as many grabs as you can and use them to strengthen you team to Rares and Supers.
- As a spender, basically you should finish the quests as fast as possible as well. The difference, is that it will be faster since you can afford to pay for Ultimate Grabs and Lucky Grabs, which should be the only grabs you are spending on before you finish the main quest-line. I find Lucky Grabs to be "luckier" although you have to remember that, when it says x3 chance for the epic, it does not mean the percent chance to get an epic is multiplied by 3. It actually means, if you happen to roll an epic, the chance that the epic is the one that was shown to you, is the one you will win. Also, Lucky Grabs pop up only after you have attacked something with energy. The amount of energy is random, but assuming that it hasn't popped up for you since you opened the game within 5 minutes, then it will take about 1-5 energy. Be careful with trying to spin for epics because the rate at getting them is quite low. f
- Doing Halls and Raids: After completing a questing zone, you will then be able to access the "Hall" in that zone. You can defeat the Hall once per day and should seriously consider doing so after completing more and more zones. Make sure to get 1 hit on the final boss since that's where the super comes, so save 1 energy when the boss before him is about to die. WARNING: People like to kill the final boss fast, so that is why you should wait to attack the final boss while the second to last boss is nearly dead. Make sure to save at least 1 energy for the other bosses as well though, because they can also drop Rares and Rare Pieces.
- Other Methods: Other means basically means salvaging monsters, mystery eggs for Rares, and any other side means I cant really think of at the moment.Salvaging, especially for a super, is quite expensive and should not really be done unless you're salvaging for an ultra or epic, and that method is really for higher leveled people and spenders.
- Using A Feeding Booster: Feeding boosters double the amount of xp gained when feeding monsters. This is absolutely amazing for feeding, especially when using the energized specials to feed other monsters. Instead of feeding x5 xp at once, you will be feeding x10 xp which is the equivalent of 2 potents and 2 charged. Very handy. But remember, you have to be very sparing when using feeding boosters. They are hard to get near the beginning and middle of the game, so only use them when ALL your inventory and storages are full while you have 5 energy. Why? At that point, there's nothing you can do but feed everything you can to your main monsters which will optimize your feeding booster. The extra 5 energy is for farming more commons/uncommons while your feeding booster is ticking out of time. Use up the 5 energy to get more monsters to feed while the booster is ticking. You may be wondering: Well how do I get one of these fancy feeding boosters? At the moment, you can get them through the Event Benchmark Rewards, Halls, and Miscellaneous means. If you hit a certain amount of trophies during an event, usually set at 50k trophies, then you will automatically receive a feeding booster. You can also do the halls everyday and try to get a feeding booster off the final bosses. Finally, you can get them from random rewards, gifts, etc.
- Buying Inventory Space and Storages: I will tell you right now, whether you are spending or not on this game, that you NEED inventory and storages. You should try as hard as possible to buy all the slots first, then work on buying all the storages as you can. Keep in mind, this will get extremely costly, and non-spenders will be limited to a certain amount. Nevertheless, you can visit Tapjoy to get some free gold. This point goes hand in hand with the feeding booster and using it when your inventory is full. I know a lot of people probably won't listen and spend the gold on grabs because, come on, it's addicting, BUT, believe me when I say that you need storages once you have all your slots.
- Using the Element Advantage: To fully maximize your efficiency, you have to realize that feeding a monster of the same element to another monster gives about a 30% increase in xp on top of the regular feeding. So if I feed a level 15 wind special to a rock special, it may go to level 30, but if i fed the level 15 wind special to another wind special, then it may go to 34, which is a huge difference. If you want to maximize your feeding, then you need to make sure the uncommons/commons/rares you use to feed into your specials are the same element as the specials to give it a bonus. Then specials being fed to each other should also be the same element if possible. This is a guideline though, because you won't always be able to do this. Regardless, you should always strive to use that 30% bonus.
- Be Selective With Specials: You have to use your specials' passives wisely. If I want to max out a Super, then it is best to use a maxed energized special to feed the Super, not a potent. So POTENT specials should be used for: evolving and maxing other specials. There should be no other use for potents really. CHARGED specials should be used for: evolving, maxing other specials, and maxing monsters. ENERGIZED specials should only be used for maxing monsters. For example, I would take 5 common monsters and feed it to my potent special to level 16. Then I will feed that potent to another potent so it will be level 31. Next, I would feed the level 31 potent to an energized so it becomes max level at 40. Finally, I would use the energized special to level up a super monster. That's generally how the process goes. There is a guide for maximizing your feeding, so I'll give the link here and also explain what I like to do.
- http://www.battlecampmanual.com/ is a pretty good site to figure out how to feed your monsters. I personally use the feeding picture in the Helpful Pictures section. /helpful-pictures.html
- What I like to do: What I do is quite biased towards using feeding boosters, because I always and only use feeding boosters to feed. If you do not have feeding boosters yet, then just focus on the basic concepts of what I do. So, as I said before, I would wait for my inventory is full before I begin feeding. Normally my inventory is filled with specials and uncommons (commons can also be used if you have not reached Lost Temple). I feed my uncommons to each other without a feeding booster so that each of them around level 16-19. At higher levels, you may also feed Rares that you don't need to 12+, since they have the same amount of xp but at lower levels which makes them more convenient. I do this until my inventory is full. Then I would activate my feeding booster. Depending on what you are doing and the ratio of specials to feeders you have is important. If I have a lot of specials, then I would level up a potent special using 1-2 feeders, then feeder that level 16-18ish potent special to another potent to get it to 31+. If I have a lot of feeders, then I would make use of the element advantage and feed 2-5 of them to a special to get it to 31. At level 31 and level 25, a potent and charged special respectively will max out any other special using a feeding booster. I continue with that process until I run out of specials to max. From there on out, it depends on what you need to do...whether it be evolving or maxing your team.
- Leveling Up Passives: So, in order to make your team stronger, you will need to increase their passive abilities. The only way to do so is to feeder another monster with the same passive to your monster. For example, I have a Freezaur with Lethal as its passive. It would be best for me to feed a Rare with Lethal to the Freezaur to level it up. Doing this method is generally effective, but as the passive level increases, the chance to level it up also decreases by 50% each time. So at level 1, a Rare has a 50% chance to level up a Super's passive. At level 2, the chance is 25%, and so on. Feeding a Super will have twice the % chance of a rare and feeding an Ultra will also have twice the % chance and so on. Generally the best way people tend to feed is by feeding one monster at a time. Like I would feed one rare at a time to my super until the passive is high...maybe around 6-8, then I would begin increasing the %chance a bit by using an extra rare or super. But most people tend to stick to one monster each time no matter what. It's personal preference and chance.
- Leveling Up Zodiacs: You can enter into the Arena in-between Arena Events which are discussed in the Events section. In the Arena, you energy changes to blue energy which is a different set of energy from your regular energy. It is maxed at 3 for recharging and recharges once every 1 hour and 30 min. Your goal here is to defeat your opponents, gather the runes from their defeat, and use the runes to level up. You can talk to Phil Nye on the left of the map to level up your zodiac. Note: At zodiac level 40, you will need many more runes that are scrollable. If you cannot level up and you should have enough runes to level up, make sure to scroll left and right to see what runes you are missing. Once a day, you can defeat your foe of the day, reset your defense team, and refresh your opponents for free. Defeating your foe of the day will give you 2 runes instead of 1. I personally like to save some runes to level up a lot whenever a league event comes for increasing power levels, but it's not a common event.
- Using Crystals: I saved this for the end of the feeding explanation because this is generally done by stronger players. Stronger players may not have enough specials to max other specials of theirs, but they will have tons of crystals sitting in their inventories and mailboxes. Crystals are something you earn from Lost Temple that will be explained later. Basically, they are specials with a higher feeding value then regular specials. I believe it is level 25 for potents and around 18 for charged crystals to max other crystals. I highly do not recommend doing this method unless you have at least 3 crystals of each type of element that you do not need. I have a fire team, but I keep all my fire for evolutions, and 3 of every other element just in case I decide to evolve teams in that element later. They are a pain to get if you are searching for specific elements.
- Equipping Weapons/Armor With Gems: Another way to strengthen your team is through equipping your monsters with Weapons and Armor. Weapons and Armor will increase your health, attack, or recovery depending on which item you get. To create these, you must first gather the plans from the troop store. If the store is lacking the specific blueprint that you need, you can refresh the store every 24 hours for another chance at them. There are 2 levels of the blueprints. You must first create the level 1 weapon/armor before you can create a level 2 weapon/armor because the level 2 weapon/armor requires you to use the level 1 weapon/armor as a "feeder." Level 1 blueprints cost 500 stones and level 2 costs 10k stones, so choose which level 2 you would like wisely.
- R-Boosting:
- Note: There are passives that are considered new passives and passives that are considered old passives. New passives cannot be mixed with old actives and vice versa. Slowly as you play, you will get the idea of which are new passives and which are old passives. Just remember that old passives can only be obtained via grabs now and they are only good if their active is good (Shield, Swap, Invincible).
- Here you can find the differences between old and new passives: /helpful-pictures.html
- TRADING***: I cannot stress how important this concept is. At the current moment, trading is the BEST way to supplement/set up your team. You can add someone in Battle Camp and Facebook, then trade them a monster 1:1 with the same rarity after waiting 12 days. I go more in-depth with trading on this page: /trading.html
- Here's my recommended team: All one element and same zodiac. 1 monster with the crush ability in your element, 1 monster with swap in your element, 1 monster with element swap in your element, 1 monster that can heal you (I prefer mender/regen), 1 monster with lacerate, 1 monster with vampire, 1 monster with snipe, and 1 monster with blast. You may have noticed that I mentioned 8 monsters instead of 5. That's mainly because only the Swap and Element Swap monsters are required for your mono team. The others should be switched in and out based on the boss you are facing. Crush will be used for Lost Temple bosses and event bosses in your element. It permanently locks down the boss. A healer monster will definitely be needed to keep you alive against the tougher hitting bosses. Lacerate is quite powerful against 3 monsters, and it also reduces healing which is needed for Lost Temple bosses and PvP/Battle Royale events. Vampire is a great damaging active that also heals you, which makes it one of my favorite abilities. Snipe is great extra damage for single target bosses whereas blast is great for multiple targets.
- Note: If you have a mono Super or higher team with no swap, but you have a rare swap or element swap, you should swap out one of your supers for your rare. A Swap or Element Swap will nearly double your damage, no matter how strong the monster using it is.
- If you are interested in making a PvP team, the monsters are simple: Bulwark/Protector passive with 2 or 3 Barriers and 2 or 3 Sacrifices. This is considered the "cheap" and "no skill" set up, but you'll win. If you want to play with skill and getting combos with gems, I recommend getting a team of Warriors,Crusader, Defender and Paladin Passives (Maybe Barbarian, Guardian, Savage, Holy, and Juggernaut). The skills you need for these old passives are (Shield, Swap, Invincible).
- I also recommend that you use monsters in your team that have second evolutions possible. You can ask other players or go to battle camp catalogs to check whether the monster has a second evolution available. I will explain evolutions in a bit.
- Tiers: As with any other game, there are monsters that are passive and active combos that are absolutely amazing, then there are combos that are downright terrible, and finally there are the combos in-between the aforementioned. I will explain the tier system in this game briefly. Monsters' active and passive combos are extremely important in this game. It determines how well your monster can do. In general, your end game team should consist of completely Tier One monsters, the best combos possible. As you are starting up, and while you play, you will encounter many Tier 2 and Tier 3 monsters. Tier 3 monsters are considered complete feeders (unless it fills the needs of your team) and should only be used as the feeder for evolving other monsters or salvaged. Tier 2 monsters are seen as "sort of good" or "useable." I say that Tier 2 monsters are okay for building up to Tier 1 monsters, but some should never be used while others could be used based on your team. Note: Tiers are only a GUIDELINE of the best combos you should have. That does not mean that ALL Tier 2 and 3 are feeders. Remember that you are making a team, therefore you should customize your team based on what your team needs. For example, a Priest Passive and Blast Active is absolutely terrible and should not be in a final team. Whereas Lethal Passive and Regen Active may be useful for people who want more damage, while only requiring little healing.
- Here are the pictures of the Tier Lists: /helpful-pictures.html
